To strengthen the national Anti-Corruption Mechanisms, Government Developed and Implemented the Second National Anti-Corruption Mechanisms with targeted focus on:

1 Strengthening institutional capacity at the Prosecutor General’s Office, NamPol and the Anti-Corruption Commission;
2. Increasing the level of political accountability through compliance with The Electoral Act, 2014;
3. Subscribing to the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) and/or review applicable laws governing the extractive industries including Fisheries and Forestry to improve transparency and deepen public trust.

The fight against corruption requires concerted efforts to maintain 'healthy' societies and nation premised on ethics, accountability, transparency and maintained integrity systems for accelerated sustainable national development.

Increasing the level of political accountability by Political Parties through submission of timely Audited Financial Reports

Sub Activity Description:

The Electoral Act outlines certain obligations that all registered political parties and organizations are required to adhere to. All registered political parties/organizations must comply with section 140 of the Act, and all political parties who are represented in parliament must comply with Section 158. Both Sections stipulate specific timelines which must be adhered to, and they are tied to the end of a political party’s/organization’s financial year. In terms of Section 139 of the Act, registered political parties/organizations must submit to the Commission a declaration of assets and liabilities in the prescribed form. In terms of the Electoral Act, “prescribe” means prescribe by way of regulations. Both section 139 and section 141 of the said Act refer to a “prescribed form” as well as a “prescribed amount”.
